Aivazovsky is, perhaps, the most famous marine painter. And certainly he is the most prolific one. He created more than 6000 paintings (!).
The photo was taken at the Aivazovsky Museum in Feodosia. The painting is called "From calm to a hurricane". This is awesome work, in my opinion. On the left you can see still a quiet pier. The trouble is still too far away. And then you watch how the storm develops. This is almost a storyboard of video. In the end (at your right hand)in abyss of the storm you can see sailors on a mast who are hoping for salvation.
It is not often that you can stand alone in front of this picture, look into the details without an outside presence, because the museum is full of constantly passing tourist groups.
On that day, the whole country celebrated the anniversary of this painter. However this event had little effect on daily life of the most important museum of Aivazovsky.
